Only a war elephant can protect its people. A circus elephant cannot.
Yet people are more at ease around the circus elephant because it entertains them and makes them laugh. They admire the war elephant from a safe distance, while they invite the circus elephant into the tent.
But comfort is not protection. When danger arrives, the same crowd that wanted amusement suddenly wants a shield. And in that hour, only the war elephant can save them.
So the choice belongs to the people. Do they want an elephant that protects them, or one that amuses them? Most choose amusement, until the very moment they need protection.
Here lies the discipline of the protector. If the war elephant truly decides to care for its people, and the people can only receive what entertains them, then it becomes the war elephant's duty to wear the circus elephant's costume.
Every mentor, teacher and guru understands this deeply. To awaken another, you must step into their arena wearing the costume they can accept. The engaging roleplay is not deceit. It is the quiet art of responsibility, empathy, care and transformation.
People listen only when you meet them where they are. If they will hear you only when you perform, then perform. Win the heart first, and the arena follows.
Be the war elephant in your strength and become the circus elephant when the purpose demands it.
